What I saw in the park …

The mellow warmth of a late September sun, which somehow illuminates everything in such sharp detail. There’s the feeling of time slowing down, encouraging a companionable silence. We made our way through the spinney, then down past the small pond, before climbing up the bracken covered slope towards Pen Ponds.

In the long grass we noticed small groups of mushrooms on each side of the path.

Mushroom or toadstool?Mushroom or toadstool?

I think this one may be a toadstool. Best not to eat either of them. In Switzerland, there are days designated for mushroom picking and the local chemist knows which varieties are safe to eat. If you don’t visit the pharmacy to check and then die, I expect it’s counted as your own fault! Not that you would be around to complain …

The water was very blue as we passed Pen Ponds, reflecting the sky. On our left there were two groups of deer and the tension between the stags was palpable. We kept out of their way but passed this small fawn, seemingly unaware of the power broking going on near at hand.
The calm before the storm ...The calm before the storm …
Retracing our steps to the Sheen Gate under a blue sky with baby, white clouds and a procession of large aeroplanes.
